I really want to explore this idea for my own literary genealogy, but I suppose I already know where my reading choices come from.  I put a lot of weight on the reading tastes of my friends and family, and generally ask for their recommendations.  My friend Dan is a huge influencer on what I read, and my friend Gabriella just lent me Gilead.  I tend to follow the path of an author I like in a linear way- reading as much of them as I can instead of going outward and reading their favorites and influences.

One thing bothered me about this article, and that’s the fact that the author seems to be judging books she never finished.  I don’t feel qualified to like or dislike a book I haven’t finished, what do you think?
