So I try not to be snobbish or judgmental about books, and reading in general. My problem is an honest confusion with people who do not read literature. I do not think we should only read Dickens and Melville, but conversely, I do not think we should only read Grisham and Twilight.
I try hard to mix genres, authors, time period etc in my reading bag, and I think I benefit from it. I feel well-rounded in my knowledge of literature, and I have my own pleasures some would call “guilty pleasures”, like Harry Potter, Agatha Christie and Tolkien.
I do judge people by the books they read, which is sad and silly. I think a lot about reading, and what people read and why so it is natural for me to at least have feelings on the subject. For me, I just wonder, “Why wouldn’t they read something good too, if they like to read?”
